چکیده

This paper is committed to give an overview of the Host Identity Protocol (HIP), to introduce the basic ideas and the main paradigms behind it, and to make an exhaustive survey of mobility management schemes in the Host Identity Layer. The authors’ goal is to show how HIP emerges from the list of potential alternatives with its wild range of possible usability, complex feature set and power to create a novel framework for future Mobile Internet architectures. In order to achieve this, the authors also perform an extensive simulation evaluation of four selected mobility solutions in the Host Identity Layer: the standard HIP mobility/multihoming (RFC5206), a micromobility solution (μHIP), a network mobility management scheme (HIP-NEMO) and a proactive, cross-layer optimized, distributed proposal designed for flat architectures (UFA-HIP). The Enabler of Advanced Mobility Management Schemes

This chapter is committed to give a comprehensive overview of the Host Identity Protocol (HIP), to introduce the basic ideas and the main paradigms behind it, and to show how HIP emerges from the list of potential alternatives with its wild range of possible usability in next generation mobile architectures. The broad scale of feasible advanced mobility management proposals and scenarios, toget...

An Index Structure Framework to Analyze Host Mobility Supports for Integrated Networks

Convergence is a key design aspect for next generation networks. Developing a general mobility management model is an important requirement for the integrated mobile networks. This paper begins with a survey of mobility management concept. Based on the analysis and comparison, we present a conceptual explanation of mobility management layer for mobility and its management. An index structure fr...

PMIPv6 Assistive Cross-Layer Design to reduce handover latency in VANET Mobility for Next Generation Wireless Networks

VANETs are one of the main next generation wireless networks which are envisaged to be an integration of homogeneous and heterogeneous wireless networks. The inter-networking of these wireless networks with the Internet will provide ubiquitous access to roaming network users. However, a seamless handover mechanism with negligible handover delay is required to maintain active connections during ...

Hierarchical Location Management for Transport Layer Mobility

IP mobility can be handled at different layers of the protocol stack. Mobile IP has been developed to handle mobility of Internet hosts at the network layer. As an alternative solution, a number of transport layer mobility protocols have been proposed, for example, MSOCKS and TCP connection migration solution in the context of TCP, and M-SCTP and mobile SCTP in the context of SCTP. More recentl...

Mobility and handoff management in vehicular networks: a survey

Mobility management is one of the most challenging research issues for vehicular networks to support a variety of intelligent transportation system (ITS) applications. The traditional mobility management schemes for Internet and mobile ad hoc network (MANET) cannot meet the requirements of vehicular networks, and the performance degrades severely due to the unique characteristics of vehicular n...
